Editorial Director

EDITORIAL DIRECTOR

Franchise Business Review is a national market research firm and media company covering the franchise industry. We are seeking an innovative and dynamic content mastermind to lead our growing editorial team. The Digital Editorial Director will develop and manage our overall content strategy and play a hands-on role in building our small business audience. They will work directly with our marketing team to plan and publish engaging content including articles, blog posts, webinars, ebooks, print publications, and more. They will help us to push our content products into a new and impactful direction with the primary goal of growing an engaged entrepreneurial business audience.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong digital publishing background with a proven track record of developing creative and innovative content and delivering audience growth. This role can be performed remotely in the short-term, although we expect that the Digital Editorial Director will work out of our Portsmouth, NH office and play a vital, interactive part of our team.

About You:

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills (business editorial background a big plus)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with team and clients to develop impactful content
  • Highly motivated, goal-driven, and well organized
  • Positive and energetic! Enjoy talking with humans and capturing their story
  • Comfortable with technology (we use Macs, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Zoom, Hubspot, Slack, Gmail, Wrike, WordPress, Google Analytics, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Understands basic SEO and how data informs strategic content development

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee editorial content strategy and existing editorial products
  • Interview franchise executives and franchise owners for webinars and other content
  • Manage and edit content from staff, freelance writers, and content partners
  • Write and edit articles, blogs, newsletters, and other digital content
  • Oversee the production and distribution of FBR’s quarterly reports
  • Manage FBR’s voice across various editorial platforms
  • Work with sales and marketing teams to develop new products to engage and grow FBR’s small business/entrepreneurial audience.
  • Serve as media liaison and pitch stories based on FBR research
  • Identify opportunities for media exposure and increased distribution for FBR content

Requirements

  • 7+ years of editorial/journalism/online content experience
  • Expert writing/editing skills with both long-form and short-form content
  • Demonstrated ability to think both creatively and strategically, with detail-oriented execution
  • Understanding of SEO/SEM, Google Adwords PPC campaigns and similar marketing
  • Ability to work under pressure and balance multiple priorities
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/English/Communications preferred
  • Online content marketing and business reporting background a big plus

  • Identify opportunities for media exposure and increased distribution for FBR content
